Stephen Walt is already having a bad week, what with Bin Laden’s endorsement of “The Israel Lobby.” On the other hand, this might have been his first good review.

In a 12 minutes address Osama bin Laden spoke to the American people on the eighth anniversary of 9/11:

Osama then said “our two Umma (meaning the America and the Muslim world) are both victims” of one aggressor, that is in his words, those “who control the White House, particularly the Israeli Lobby and the multinational corporations.” He endorsed two books for Americans to understand how these lobbies control the White House. “A book by a former CIA agent who apologized for his crimes as a mercenary and another book titled the Israel Lobby professors John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt.” He claimed that these two books “will give you the truth.”

Bin Laden praised US President Obama for having “admitted at last in his speech in Cairo, the existence of our people’s miseries.” He also praised “former President Carter’s statements about the Palestinians during his last visit in Gaza, and particularly his statements on Israel’s racism.”

In dem Blog Zeitung für Schland wird unter der Überschrift Übersetzungsfehler und Kriegstreiberei ein Leserbrief in der FAZ von dem emeritierten Professor Dr. Nikolaus Läufer (Professor an der Universität Konstanz von 1977-2002) auseinander genommen. Dieser hält die Vernichtungsdrohungen von Ahmadinejad für einen Übersetzungsfehler; in Läufers Augen dienen die Übersetzungsfehler nur dazu, den nächsten Militärschlag vorzubereiten. In den Worten Läufers:

Bei den Vernichtungsphantasien des iranischen Präsidenten handelt es sich um eine jener Fiktionen westlicher Medien über die Achse des Bösen, mit denen der nächste militärische Schlag gegen die islamische Welt begründet und medial vorbereitet wird.

Aber Herr Professor Dr. Nikolaus Läufer verbringt seinen Ruhestand nicht nur mit dem Schreiben von Leserbriefen, er betreibt zudem auch noch ein Blog. Der Inhalt entspricht in etwa dem des Leserbriefes (die USA und Israel findet er nicht so doll, gelinde ausgedrückt). Auch hat er ein Faible für die “Israel-Lobby” und Walt und Mearsheimer. Der krasseste Beitrag in seinem Blog findet sich unter der Überschrift Vertuscht Greenspan die wahren Zusammenhänge?:

Alan Greenspan, der von der deutschen Finanzwelt (insbesondere von Prof. Walter von der Deutschen Bank) vergötterte ehemalige Präsident der amerikanischen Zentralbank (FED) meint in seinem neuen Buch (The Age of Turbulence), der Irak-Krieg sei wegen des Öls geführt worden.

Muss man Greenspan zur jüdischen Lobby zählen, welche ein Interesse daran hat, von anderen Aspekten des Irak-Krieges abzulenken, welche durch den Beitrag von Walt und Mearsheimer in den Vordergrund gerückt worden sind?

Einfach irre, auf was für durchgeknallte Theorien deutsche Professoren im Ruhestand kommen.

John J. Mearsheimer und Stephen M. Walt haben mal wieder zugeschlagen. Diesmal mit einem Interview im linksextremen CounterPunch. Berührungsängste mit der rot-braunen Soße kennen die beiden Professoren anscheinend nicht; auf Judeosphere wird gefragt:

Why did these two academics–who claim to be staunch opponents of anti-semitism–choose to speak with a newsletter that: publishes the anti-semitic ravings of Gilad Atzmon; describes Holocaust denier and white supremacist Ernst Zundel as a “painter and pacifist” who is being “persecuted” by the U.S. and Canadian governments; suggests that the 2001 anthrax attacks were perpetrated by a Jewish former government scientist to raise suspicions about Muslims; and asserts that the Israeli government had advance knowledge of the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

Mit meiner Vorfreude über die Verpflichtung William (“Bill”) Kristols durch die New York Times habe ich offensichtlich einen Volltreffer gelandet, denn nun melden sich die ewig Zukurzgekommenen beleidigt zu Wort:

America needs realists, not William Kristol. By Stephen M. Walt.

Und, wie schaut es aus: Von wem stammt wohl die abgebildete Gruselkarrikatur? Vielleicht von Horst Mahler? Oder von Norman Finkelstein, dem Stichwortgeber aller aufrechten Israelhasser von der NPD über die Hisbollah bis zur PDS? Oder schmückt es das Cover der rechtsextremen NATIONAL-ZEITUNG?

Im FrontPage Magazine setzt sich Raymond Ibrahim mit den Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden vom Al Qaeda Reader und Hitlers Mein Kampf auseinander.

Aus dem Artikel zitier ich nachfolgend die drei Passagen, die Raymond Ibrahim über The Jew aus dem Al Qaeda Reader verwendet:

You should know that seeking to kill Americans and Jews everywhere in the world is one of the greatest duties [for Muslims], and the good deed most preferred by Allah, the Exalted.

You [America] are a nation that permits usury, though it has been forbidden by all the religions. Yet you build your economy and investments on usury. As a result of this, in all its different forms and guises, the Jews have taken control of your economy, thereby taking control of your media, and now control all aspects of your life, making you their servants and achieving their aims at your expense—precisely what Benjamin Franklin warned you against.

Come let me [bin Laden] tell you who the Jews are. The Jews have lied about the Creator, and even more so about His creations. The Jews are the murderers of the prophets, the violators of agreements…. These are the Jews: usurers and whoremongers. They will leave you nothing, neither this world nor religion…. Such are the Jews who, in accordance with their religion, believe that human beings are their slaves and that those who refuse [to recognize this] should be put to death.

Die Ähnlichkeit zu Hitlers Weltbild sind unverkennbar. Wegen der ersten Passage könnte Al Qaeda jedoch auch gut von der Hamas wegen geistigen Diebstahls verklagt werden – aber eine Krähe hackt der anderen ja bekanntlich auch kein Auge aus. Ähnlich unwahrscheinlich dürften auch Plagiatsvorwürfe von John J. Mearsheimer und Stephen Walt wegen der zweiten Passage sein, aber man sollte auch nie die akademische Ehrpusseligkeit unterschätzen.

Raymond Ibrahim kommt in dem Artikel The Al Qaeda Reader and Mein Kampf jedenfalls zu dem wenig beruhigendem Fazit:

In the final analysis, the theological aspects of The Al Qaeda Reader make it a much more disturbing read than something like Mein Kampf. That the ideologies presented in Mein Kampf are ultimately traced back to a man, whereas many of the ideologies of The Al Qaeda Reader are traced back to Muhammad and Allah—becoming theology—is a great matter. Man-made ideologies can always be discredited and allotted to the dustbins of history. Ideologies grounded in theologies, however, are not so easily dismantled, for they are grounded in the Immutable and simply must apply—yesterday, today, and tomorrow—regardless of all outward evidence to the contrary. To reject them is to reject the commandments of God and fall into a state of infidelity.
